FileKeeper Corporate - How it works
Yosemite FileKeeper Corporate consists of three primary components: FileKeeper Policy Server, FileKeeper Agents and one or more FileKeeper Backup Locations. This architecture allows customers to protect 10 clients as easily as 10,000.
HOW IT WORKS
FileKeeper's Policy Server is a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) web application that provides administrators with a central console to manage FileKeeper protection policies and agents and view reports. The FileKeeper Policy Server is extremely lightweight and rarely requires a dedicated server. Since only the Policy Server information and settings are stored in a SQL database, a single typical Policy Server can protect as many as 500 clients.
Using the Policy Server console, administrators can centrally administer company-wide policies for file protection, versioning, and data protection and retention. They can configure and monitor all of the FileKeeper Agents deployed in their environment and direct protected data to be stored on file servers commonly deployed in the corporate network infrastructure. To minimize user impact, FileKeeper Policy changes are transparently delivered to FileKeeper Agents on Edge systems via a Microsoft .NETŪ Web service.
FileKeeper Agents are analogous to anti-virus agents that are currently deployed in your environment in that they are ubiquitous and that they can be installed, updated and configured remotely, from a FileKeeper Policy Server. FileKeeper agents back up files in real-time, as the files are being saved to disk, and in accordance with the data protection and retention policies defined on the FileKeeper Policy Server. The agents save the current and previous versions of a protected document in a reserved area of the user's local hard drive (called the FileKeeper repository). The agents also compress, copy, and optionally encrypt the file version to one or more FileKeeper Backup Locations on locally-attached storage devices or network drives.
A FileKeeper Backup Location can be any storage device that supports storing files from Windows-based clients.
Using these three major FileKeeper components, Yosemite FileKeeper provides organizations with secure and transparent protection of user data for laptops and desktops running at the "Edge" of your network and maintained with centralized policies. FileKeeper's patent-pending technology that protects every document a user edits at the instant they save their documents to disk ensures every file is protected every time. IT Help Desk calls are virtually eliminated while user productivity dramatically increases because file recoveries of any previous version are simple and easy through FileKeeper's intuitive, context-sensitive right-click menus.
With Yosemite FileKeeper protecting data on Edge systems combined with traditional data protection of Core systems using solutions such as Yosemite Backup, businesses extend the existing backup and recovery from Core systems to the Edge resulting in Total Data Protection of corporate data assets.
